Postdoc position on the long-term effects
of agricultural diversification

The Department of Ecology of Tropical Agricultural Systems at the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart (Germany) is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to investigate the long-term benefits of agricultural diversification for ecological and social sustainability. Preferred starting date is 1 March 2026. The position is limited to a duration of 2 years.The regular working hours will be 39.5 h per week. Salary will be paid according to the German grade 13 TV-L (100% position; see https://oeffentlicher-dienst.info/tv-l/allg/).
The position is part of an international research collaboration involving Prof. Ingo Grass (University of Hohenheim, supervisor of this postdoc) Prof. Claire Kremen (University of British Columbia), Prof. Laura Vang Rasmussen (University of Copenhagen), and Prof. Zia Mehrabi (University of Colorado Boulder). The project builds on the work that earned the team the 2025 Frontiers Planet Prize for their 2024 Science paper Joint environmental and social benefits from diversified agriculture DOI: 10.1126/science.adj1914.
Your profile
- PhD in ecology, agricultural sciences, environmental sciences, or related fields
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with experience in R or similar software
- Demonstrated interest in agricultural diversification, sustainability, or social-ecological systems
- Excellent writing skills and publication record appropriate to career stage
- Motivation to work in an interdisciplinary, international research environment
Your tasks
- Analyze long-term datasets to assess how agricultural diversification influences ecological and social sustainability outcomes and their resilience to shocks
- Synthesis of global data across environmental, agronomic, and socioeconomic dimensions
- Lead the writing and publication of high-impact papers
- Engage in international collaboration, including short-term visits to international partners
- Support with organization of workshops
